How is the WHS managed?

How is the site managed?

Due to the size and complexity of the site and the numerous owners and stakeholder a partnership form of management has been established. The Derwent Valley Mills Partnership chaired by Cllr Joyce Sanders is composed of representatives of about 30 separate bodies including the local councils, voluntary societies, regeneration agencies and conservation bodies. By monitoring the implementation of the Management Plan the partnership are responsible for the conservation of the site, encouraging sustainable modes of transport, unlocking the educational opportunities, and developing tourism and the local economy in an environmentally and economically sustainable way for the benefit of the local community.

The Derwent Valley Mills Partnership is composed of the following partners:

The Derwent Valley Mills Partnership is in turn served by the Technical Panel and a series of specialist panels on Transportation, Commerce and Industry, Research and Publications, and Tourism, Arts and Heritage Sites. The Management Structure is shown on the diagram below.
