Due to the size and complexity of the site and the numerous owners and stakeholder a partnership form of management has been established. The Derwent Valley Mills Partnership chaired by Cllr Joyce Sanders is composed of representatives of about 30 separate bodies including the local councils, voluntary societies, regeneration agencies and conservation bodies. By monitoring the implementation of the Management Plan the partnership are responsible for the conservation of the site, encouraging sustainable modes of transport, unlocking the educational opportunities, and developing tourism and the local economy in an environmentally and economically sustainable way for the benefit of the local community.
