Before the Derwent Valley Mills, and the towns and villages which surround them, were inscribed as a World Heritage Site, in December 2001, considerable public consultation took place in the valley, with residents showing clear support for the proposed designation.
Since that time, a number of community activities have taken place, many supported and run by the World Heritage Site’s arts team.
