D1 ForestWISE

This project will train 16 participants from the Lower Derwent Valley area as Forest Schools Leaders. The programme will support these leaders throughout their progress through an accredited Forest School Leadership qualification and ensure that each new leader delivers at least 6 Forest School learning sessions with their client groups in the first year of the project.

D2 Get Skilled for DerwentWISE

The project will provide Heritage Skills Training in a programme of learning activities devised to compliment the conservation projects and community aspirations of the DerwentWISE scheme. The programme is designed to meet cultural and natural heritage needs.

D3 Wildlife Guardians

The Wildlife Guardians project aims to engage local people of all ages with the wildlife of the Lower Derwent Valley. This will be achieved through a programme of walks and talks, family learning activities, youth ranger sessions and practical training events. People will be encouraged to participate in the DerwentWISE Scheme by recording wildlife sightings and helping to manage wildlife habitats.

D7 Working with Stone

The project is designed to engage people practically with stone and lime. Making use of NSC’s national building stone reference collection, but will concentrate on basic skills in stone with a particular emphasis on conservation – dry stone walling/ masonry/ stone conservation and repair/carving and sculpting/use of lime, sourcing and matching.
