Lead and Limestone: Storytelling Walk

A story walk on the edge of Wirksworth taking in the remains of two vital industries and using them to inspire stories – not history, but folk/fairy tales. There will also be some historical fact and explanation.

Derby Roundhouse Tour

The Roundhouse has been restored into a truly unique learning centre and this tour reveals how the impressive new buildings complement this historical site. The friendly, knowledgeable tour guides will take you around The Roundhouse, the Engine Shed and Carriage Shop, revealing the true-life stories of the men, women and children who pioneered Derby’s railway industry.

Circus Skills Workshop

Come and have a taste of being in the Circus! Join students and lecturers from the University of Derby and Deda’s Dance Degree as they swirl you through the colourful world of circus skills, from acrobatics to juggling! A drop in session which suits all levels of ability and all ages, with special demonstrations from these talented performers.

The Wonders of Aqueduct Cottage

Belper and the Circus: Book Launch

It is 250 years this year that the circus as we know it now was invented by Philip Astley. Neil Calladine looks at Astley’s life and the history of the circus in Belper. Neil looks back at circus type performances in Derby by the late 1700s and in Belper from 1841 and earlier, as he launches his new book on this subject.
