Exhibition of images in the No 28 Community Centre, celebrating the many modes of transport seen in Belper over the years. Also a community cafe and the monthly farmers’ market is just outside on the Market Place.

Milford Hydro – How it Works

Milford Village Walk

Time: 10am to 12 noon

Easy terrain, but steps in several places.

A guided walk of about 1.5 miles around this historic village, led by Heather Eaton and Adrian Farmer. Walk around the water management system that remains following the mill demolitions of 1964, then up to the exceptional millworkers’ terraced housing.

Open Day at Strutt’s Centre

Time: 10am to 4pm

Exhibitions and activities to celebrate the best of Derbyshire’s Heritage. Just call in to see what’s going on in this beautiful old school building, now a community centre run by volunteers. Food and drink will be served all day long.

Introduction to Stained Glass Technique

Two day course: Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th October

Learn traditional stained glass techniques and make a small leaded glass panel (leaded light).

Strutt’s North Mill

Time: 11am to 4pm
Venue: Strutt’s North Mill, Belper, DE56 1YD
FREE, donations welcome. Free parking.
The main part of the museum is accessible and there is an accessible toilet.

Strutt’s North Mill Museum will be open for free entry. Donations are welcome.

 

Heage Windmill

Time: 11am to 4pm
Venue: Heage Windmill, Heage, DE56 2BH
Costs: Adults £4, Concessions £3.50, Children £2, Under-5 free.
No need to book, just drop in. 
Visitor Centre and first floor of the mill are accessible by wheelchair and there is an accessible toilet. No dogs in the mill, but welcome on site on leads.

Heage Windmill is the only six-sailed stone tower windmill in England. It is a Grade II* listed building, sited on a hill providing spectacular views towards the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. It was restored to working order in 2002 and looks as splendid as when first built in 1797. Visitors can go on tours with guides, normally in traditional costumes. There is an Interpretation Centre and a shop where you can buy flour that is milled here.

 

Weir Watchers

Time: 11.15am to 12.45pm

The main part of the museum is accessible and there is an accessible toilet. However the weir itself has limited accessibility.

Join Jeremy Benn to hear about the recent survey work that’s taken place at Belper’s Rock Weir and Milford’s Foundry Weir followed by a visit to the Rock Weir. Weirs are a key asset and central to the World Heritage Site.

On Old Cow Hill walk

Time: 11.30am to 12.30pm

A 1.5 mile short walk, looking at Belper beyond the Deer Park, and a six hundred year old boundary that still defines Belper localities.

 

Discovering the Deer Park walk

Time: 2pm to 3pm
Starts from: No 28 Market Place, Belper, DE56 1FZ
FREE, donations welcome.
Pre-booking recommended on 01629 536831, or just turn up!
Footpaths and slopes, but no stiles. Walking boots recommended.

A short one mile walk around Belper’s Deer Park, to hear about the local Manor House and to find out about later uses of the Park, now a Local Nature Reserve.
