Thanks to funding from Accessible Belper and the Great Place Scheme, the Mobiloo will be parked in Strutt’s North Mill car park for the whole day – to use at your convenience! The Mobiloo is a mobile accessible toilet with adult-sized changing bench, hoist and a friendly attendant

Strutt’s North Mill has free entry for the first Sunday of Discovery Days, offering regular guided tours with their friendly and knowledgeable guides. They bring this incredible building to life, explaining its place in world history and how the cotton was transformed from plant to thread. Come and meet the artist! Japanese textile artist Seiko Kinoshita has installed a bespoke contemporary textile installation in the basement of Strutt’s North Mill. It incorporates hundreds of bobbins and a bespoke soundscape playing industrial sounds collected from local and international mills.

See the six sails in operation, and discover the mill’s history. Windmill volunteers need your help to make a Giant Cobweb, hopefully even bigger than last year’s, involving everyone on site at the time – 12 noon. The more people, the bigger the cobweb.

Take a guided walk through this interesting area. Covering over 200 years of industry from the building of the Cromford Canal and the early gangroads to the coming of the railways and industries that sprang up around these transport links. From the Marble Works to the Dyeworks, Corn Mills to Lime Kilns, this area was once a hive of industry, providing employment for many.

Take a “comfort break” with tea and cake at the village hall before or after the walk.

A walk with John Morrissey, looking at this fascinating area of Belper that housed cows in medieval times but later became the focus of nail-making and heavy industry. Mainly streets but footpaths through The Parks and quite steep at times.

The route down the valley involves some steep steps and uneven paths which can be muddy and slippery. Wear suitable footwear with a good grip. Walking poles are also recommended
