Lea Wood Work Party

Join Derbyshire Wildlife Trust to help with practical woodland management work, removing non-native rhododendron from this important ancient woodland in the World Heritage Site.

Time: 9.30am to 2.30pm

The Rumour Mill – Animation Studio

Come and meet Bexie Bush, award winning animator and look around her studio at Lea Mills. Bexie is currently working on an ambitious animation project, which debates aspects of the topic of ‘energy’ and is using the John Smedley factory as inspiration for her film. The visit will afford an opportunity to see artwork, models and learn how the sets have been made. Visitors will also be able to watch some behind the scenes footage of the making of ‘The Rumour Mill’.

Time: tours at 10am, 11.30am and 2pm

Old Roads, Turnpikes and “The Tantivy”

Illustrated talk by Trevor Griffin about the development of horse drawn transport and the routes that it used along the Derwent Valley. To include the story behind the run of “The Tantivy” in 2017.

Woodland Fun Activities

Come and have a go at a range of outdoor fun activities relating to the woodlands around Cromford Wharf. Practical activities, fun crafts and skills. Get outdoors, get muddy and have some fun.

Pickford’s Plot: Leaf Printing

The Great Belper High Street Walk

Find out from Adrian Farmer how Belper’s history contributed to the town’s Great British High Street win in 2014, and the stories behind the development of the town centre and its shops.

Derby Arena Tour

Here’s your chance to take a tour around Derby Arena – the UK’s most central velodrome and so much more. Discover this stunning Olympic inspired building’s multi-purpose appeal from state of the art cycling, sports and fitness, to concert and stage-show entertainment. Tour includes behind the scenes exploration of the track bike locker facility where you can get up close to light-weight speed machines which have no brakes or gears!

From here to there, or how to move a museum!

An evening talk about how Wirksworth Heritage Centre came to move sites and the journey involved, including plans for the future of the brand new centre. This will be followed by a guided tour of the museum and a light supper to finish.
