Join Derbyshire Wildlife Trust to help with practical woodlands management work, removing non-native rhododendron from this important ancient woodland in the World Heritage Site.
Betty Kenny Walk
Time: 10am to 1pm
Starts from the corner of Holly Lane and The Birches Wood, just over the Halfpenny Bridge, Ambergate.
FREE (funded by DerwentWISE project), but booking is essential on 01629 533038 (there is an enrolment form to fill in).
Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear as the walk covers steep slopes and rough terrain. Use Ambergate Station Pay and Display car park (DE56 2EN) if driving to event. Unsuitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs and tramper scooters.
Join Debbie Alston on a guided walk in Shining Cliff Woods, near Ambergate. See the wildlife of this ancient woodland and hear the story of Betty Kenny and her family who were local charcoal makers. We will visit the Betty Kenny Yew, which is believed to be the inspiration for the Rock-A-Bye Baby lullaby.
Pickford’s Plot: Poppies

Sow your own poppy seeds and create a beautiful plant pot to take them home in. Watch your poppy seeds grow and bloom over Remembrance month, as they burst in to life over winter.

The Holly Bush at Makeney is having a beer festival starting at mid-day on Thursday 26th October and finishing on Saturday, 28th. They will have 25 real ales with music on the Friday and Saturday night.
