Berkins Court Events

10.30am - 3.30pm.  FREE.  Chevin View, opposite the Lion Hotel, Bridge Street, Belper. 
Refreshments available with donations in aid of the Alzheimer's Society.

Strutt complex of houses and workshops built over 200 years ago, c1790, at Chevin View.  Event includes:

  • 10 Chevin View open: tour round one of Belper's only remaining back-to-back houses
  • Chevin View wash-house - 1911 wash-day: come and see how dolly tubs, washboards and bar-soap were used 100 years ago for doing the laundry - and have a go (bring your own pillow-case or tea-towel plus a plastic bag)
  • The history of Berkins Court: Chevin View, Lion Terrace and Croft Cottages - display showing a taste of the history of the houses and people who lived there - in 3 Chevin View (front room only).
