A Whole New World: Maps of the Derwent Valley Mills

Date: 16th November 2020
Time: 6.30pm to 8pm
Location: Online, via University of Derby – booking details below

Part of the Being Human, national festival for Humanities Research.

The University of Derby, Ruth Gray and Adrian Farmer invite you to a workshop ‘Making Memory Maps, inspired by Derbyshire Record Office’s collection of maps of the Derwent Valley.

Adrian will talk about the Great Place Scheme project which was funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund and Arts Council England. The project involved volunteers, Adrian and staff from Derbyshire Record Office digitising some of their Derwent Valley maps collection to create a mapping portal and touring exhibition.

Then, local artist Ruth Gray will lead a workshop to make your own map wall-hangings out of simple materials (a factsheet will be sent to you in advance so that you are prepared). A selection of images of the best that you create will be added to the Derbyshire Record Office’s collection to represent what the area means to us all today.

This is an online event which is suitable for families, but must be booked in advance.
