Fabric of the North

Thu 7th May - Sat 23rd May
Blue woven fabric
Fabric of the North Exhibition and Workshops

Fabric of the North brings together works by members of the British Tapestry Group, in a range of styles and techniques, large and small, with a single theme: our Northern heritage.

Exhibitors from near and far include long-established professional artists as well as relative novices, and visitors will discover an art form which can be enjoyed at all levels by anyone, whether working on the loom, admiring a hanging on display, or buying a work to enjoy at home. Visitors of all ages can help weave a large-scale tapestry, enjoy demonstrations and videos, and see posters of tapestries by British Tapestry Group members from around the world.

Weaving materials and equipment will be available for sale.

  • Entry to the exhibition is free.
  • The free, drop-in workshops are for all visitors, and families will find them a lot of fun.
  • The talks are for anyone with an interest in tapestry.
  • The professional workshops, which are ticketed, are mainly intended for more experienced or ambitious tapestry weavers. For more information on a presenter go to the Fabric of the North(link is external) Web page.

If you have an interest in weaving – or just need an excuse to visit Cromford Mills for tea, cake and the fabulous industrial archaeology – you need to be at Fabric of the North.
