An important part of conserving wildlife is knowing what species we have and which ones we have lost. DerwentWISE will be running a series of training events to allow local people to become better at identifying plants, animals and insects.
Children’s ability and motivation to learn is greatly improved by being in the outdoors. Many of the DerwentWISE learning projects are aimed at schools and young people, with the aim of reconnecting children with their natural environment. These include field trips and working within school grounds. These volunteering opportunities are useful for people who would like a career in environmental education, or teachers looking to expand their teaching repertoire.
