Volunteering at Cromford
This is a very exciting time at Cromford Mills with the opening of the new Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site Gateway this year. This means there are lots of new volunteer activities to get involved with. The new Gateway provides a focal point within the northern part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site and engages a broad spectrum of visitors in a variety of ways, providing opportunities to discover more about the heritage of this remarkable valley that changed the world, and signposting visitors to key locations within Cromford and the wider World Heritage Site. It includes a new auditorium, exhibition area, shop and historical interpretation including an audio visual presentation inside Sir Richard Arkwright’s first mill built in 1771.
There are a variety of roles within the Gateway as we are looking for volunteers to welcome visitors to this fantastic new centre. Gateway Hosts will share their enthusiasm and knowledge of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site and perform a range of tasks to ensure visitors get the most out of their time here. We also need people to help as Retail Volunteers in the shop area selling products and event tickets etc… and people to take on the role of Day Co-ordinator to help with the smooth running of the Gateway. Whatever the role, you will be inspiring people to visit, learn and engage in the history of this amazing industrial valley. All volunteers involved with the Gateway will be given full training so that you can share your knowledge of the Derwent Valley Mills and perform a range of activities.
There are also a variety of exciting roles to get involved with on the wider Cromford Mills site to help with the expanding activities programme on offer. These include new tour guides, costumed interpreters, education volunteers, event stewards and administration support. The full list of the volunteer opportunities available is on the website www.cromfordmills.org.uk/volunteer.
If anyone is interested in any of the volunteer roles relating to the Gateway or in general then please get in touch with Hannah Steggles, the Volunteer Manager, via email on firstname.lastname@example.org or ring 01629 823256.
