Call for Creative Producer
Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site (DVMWHS) is seeking to commission a Creative Producer to deliver a multi-faceted arts project to run until 2020 as part of the Vital Valley Great Place Scheme.
Building on the success of previous arts interventions along and within the DVMWHS, the project should be innovative and artistically challenging; raise the profile of the DVMWHS; dramatically enhance the cultural offer of the area; work closely with local communities and attract new visitors.
Running between 2017 and 2020, Vital Valley is the next step in engaging people in the uniqueness of culture and heritage of the Derwent Valley. The industrial heritage of innovation and making will inspire arts, culture and heritage at the heart of the World Heritage Site. Vital Valley is funded as a Great Place Scheme, a partnership between the Heritage Lottery Fund, Arts Council England and supported by Historic England.
The Derwent Valley Mills is a World Heritage Site located along the River Derwent in Derbyshire. It is the only World Heritage Site in the East Midlands. It was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in December 2001, and contains a fascinating series of historic mill complexes, including the world’s first ‘modern’ factories, together with an outstanding ensemble of domestic and civic infrastructure. It is the cradle of the factory system, and it is where, in the 18th century, water power was first successfully harnessed for textile production. This revolutionised industry and changed the way people lived and worked, eventually throughout the world. The DVMWHS extends approximately 15 miles north to south along the Derwent Valley, stretching from Masson Mills at Matlock Bath to Derby’s Silk Mill. Along this section of the River Derwent, visitors can enjoy the rural splendour of the Derwent Valley which provides a unique insight into the industrial and social life during the 18th and 19th centuries.
