Everyone – Your Place in the World

This summer, Derby Museums is sending out an open invitation to participate in an art exhibition with a difference. ‘Everyone – Your Place in the World‘ is an exhibition to which anyone can submit a piece of two-dimensional artwork fitting the theme of ‘Your Place in the World’. In the spirit of experimentation the museum pledges to display all of the submissions, in this free to enter exhibition.

Tony Butler, Executive Director at Derby Museums said:

“At Derby Museum we think that ‘no one of us is smarter than all of us’. We believe all citizens in our city have a right to experience and take part in great art, whether it’s looking at our intriguing collections or participating in the creation of our displays. I hope people’s art will be inspired by family, landscapes or a neighbourhood.”

Every ready-to-hang submission will be exhibited within the museum galleries and surrounding spaces at the Museum and Art Gallery. Dependent upon the number of entries, works may also be exhibited at the other two museum sites, Pickford’s House and The Silk Mill.

Andrea Hadley-Johnson, Co-production and Engagement Manager at Derby Museum said:

“We’d be delighted to see the museum full to bursting with amazing artworks that illustrate our shared world and our place within it. We’d love to see as many people as possible making, creating and sharing their art. ‘Everyone’ is in keeping with Derby Museum’s desire to actively build, encourage and value creativity in everyone.

As well as the exhibition, visitors to Derby Museums can take part in a wide range of activities and events this summer, focused on the theme of ‘Everyone‘. In August, Derby Museums will be hosting the FIGMENT Derby, a free, inclusive, participatory arts event which occurs in over 20 North American cities. FIGMENT Derby will be the first FIGMENT event to take place in Europe and will be held at The Silk Mill on Saturday 20th August.

Everyone – Your Place in the World‘ runs from 9 July – 25 September.
