Season Opening at Strutt’s North Mill
Strutt’s North Mill is now OPEN FOR 2017 with a new Photographic Exhibition. Throughout February the museum is open during the weekends. From March to October it will be open Wednesdays to Sundays (11am to 4pm).
There is a stunning new temporary exhibition by local photographer Jeff Mander, called ‘Sylvan’ – a photographic exploration of Derbyshire’s Woodlands. This exhibition is housed in our newly revamped temporary exhibition space in the Upper Wheel Pit. It will be exhibited until Sunday 23rd April.
Photographer Jeff Mander says, “The woods of Derbyshire are a fascinating place to work. You sometimes find the remains of buildings or ancient water-courses, fragments of history. I hope my photographs capture the variety in these landscapes and the sense of peace and tranquility I experience, exploring Derbyshire’s woodlands.”
This is the first of three exciting new temporary exhibitions planned for 2017. This coincides with a new offer for visitors, which particularly benefits local residents. The museum is now giving a free annual pass to any paying adult (admission is £5 for adults and free for anyone aged under 16). This will enable visitors to see the other 2017 temporary exhibitions free of charge, as well as visit the museum for free throughout the next 12 months.
The museum also has new Educational Trails to help children and families explore it and other important local historical features. It is well worth a visit to this unique and historically significant grade I listed building in the centre of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.
Strutt’s North Mill Museum is open Saturdays and Sundays, 11am to 4pm only during February. It is then open Wednesdays to Sundays, 11am to 4pm from 1st March.
The ‘Sylvan’ exhibition will be on show until 23rd April.
