Residential Visits in the Derwent Valley Mills
There are three residential centres in or near to the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. All offer a wealth of high quality outdoor activities and the opportunity to visit any of the key sites on your journey to or from the area or during your stay.
Mount Cook Adventure Centre
Mount Cook is a not for profit organisation with an eco-friendly ethos that provides high quality residential experiences and activity days. They work with a variety of groups including schools, charities, corporate groups, and families, for unforgettable outdoor experiences. The modern facilities include 180 beds of accommodation, including accessible rooms and glamping pods, a variety of meeting rooms, catering facilities, and a selection of exciting activities like High Ropes, Zip wire, Archery and more!
Based just outside the village of Wirksworth and have easy access to the beautiful Peak District and the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.
Our mission is to provide access to the outdoors and outdoor activities for all, especially young people who might not otherwise have the opportunity.

Willersley Castle

Part of Manor Adventure Willersley Castle provides schools with a truly unique residential experience full of character and charm. Set within an historic 18th-century castle and 65 acres of stunning Peak District grounds, it is our most intimate centre, with space for up to just 130 pupils. The smaller scale creates a safe, close-knit atmosphere where every group feels valued and supported. We offer a wide range of expert-led activities, high-quality en suite accommodation and even the option of summer glamping – all delivered with the care and attention Manor Adventure is known for. Willersley Castle is the house built by Sir Richard Arkwright that he never lived in and was the home of his son Richard Arkwright Jnr.

Lea Green
Lea Green, based in the heart of Derbyshire is one of the country’s leading outdoor education and activity centres, offering a range of inclusive, accessible, and challenging activities.
Set in 25 acres of stunning grounds, the centre welcomes schools, private hires, sports clubs, children’s birthday parties and groups with additional needs. Lea Green provides a variety of accommodation options including the main house, the cottage, glamping and fully accessible accommodation.
