STEAM Session: Using Digital Technology to Enhance Teaching and Learning
Join Derby Musuem of Making for the next event in their FREE online ‘STEAM* Sessions’ series, ideal for teachers (Early Years Foundation Stage through to post-16) and educators!
The November STEAM session event will explore how digital technologies can be used to engage and inspire learners. Through interactive demonstrations and discussions, we’ll be exploring digital technologies, with examples, including augmented reality and interactive learning platform ‘Nearpod’. We’ll reflect on why digital technology is so valuable in education, exploring an inspirational case study – ‘Girls into Global STEM’, and consider how such digital technology may be incorporated effectively into our own educational practice.
Joining us in conversation will be guest speakers Greg Hughes (Vice Principal – Learning Technologies and Curriculum, at The de Ferrers Trust), Professor Kevin Burden (Professor of Educational Technology at the University of Hull) and Ray Kirtley (Chair of UK Global Learning Association for Schools).
What are ‘STEAM Sessions’?
‘STEAM Sessions’ are a FREE series of bi-monthly events, exploring with educators how STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) learning is able to prepare our children and young people to face future environmental and social challenges in a rapidly changing world.
Each session is a FREE live Continuing Professional Development (CPD) event, featuring conversation with expert guest speakers from national and international STEAM-linked organisations. STEAM sessions are part of the Institute of STEAM, which is a partnership between Derby Museums and Rolls-Royce.
This session will be the first of our new ‘Investigate’ STEAM sessions:
‘Investigate’ sessions delve a little deeper into a particular STEAM-learning-related issue and consider together how this may relate to your own practice as an educator. We also host ‘Illuminate’ sessions, which shine a spotlight on a broad theme related to STEAM learning.
*STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths.
