Belper 250 – Public Meeting, 7pm on the 15th September

A date for your diary! The next Belper 250 public meeting is on the 15th September at 7pm in the Strutts Centre, Belper.

2026 sees 250 years since the Strutts began building mills in Belper – a step towards becoming the World’s First Cotton Mill Town.

Work has been progressing through 2025 on the best ways of marking Belper’s most significant anniversary, and so far there are over 80 activities planned for across the year. There are still opportunities for groups, organisations and individuals to get involved with planning for this year long programme of activities covering many aspects of Belper’s past from the last 250 years. Do you have an activity to offer? Could you support one of the events? Come along and let us know.
Also in 2026:
  • 300 years since the birth of Jedidiah Strutt who built that first mill.
  • 40 years since the Belper Mills closed
  • 25 years since the Derwent Valley Mills became a World Heritage Site
  • 75 years since Belper Town Football Club was reformed
  • 250 years since Cromford’s Second Mill and first industrial housing.
