Oakhill was built c.1841–1842 by Richard Arkwright II on former agricultural land. It is believed it was originally built to provide the Reverend Robert Morgan Jones, the curate and minister of the Arkwright Cromford chapel with an appropriate home. Early residents included William Melville (a prominent Nottingham cotton spinner and merchant who was a tenant at Masson Mill and Cromford Mill), and later members of the Arkwright family.

Lea Green, Mount Cook and Manor Adventure’s Willersley Castle centres offer a flexible programme of activities, excellent accommodation options, including fully accessible rooms. All are either in or on the outskirts of the northern end of the World Heritage Site.
