The Developer

The Developer was an innovative arts project which took place at the John Smedley factory in April 2013 as a part of the FORMAT Photography festival which is based in Derby. The theme for the year was ‘factory’ and this Arts Council funded project was developed with Louise Clements of FORMAT and Cally Callomon.

The musician John Parish led a team of fellow players to develop work which was composed and recorded in the in the factory. It reflected the people and place, who collectively continue to make fine cotton and wool clothes. The proceedings and the life of the factory were recorded by film maker Gavin Bush.
