Format21 MassIsolation
Format21: MassIsolation

The Format21: MassIsolation project was launched on Instagram by FORMAT International Photography Festival in mid-March 2020, just three days before the UK entered its first lockdown. Since then, image makers from around the world have been invited to participate in documenting the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on their lives and those of their family and friends. To date nearly 40,000 images have been received from over 90 countries; a fascinating selection of which will be exhibited at Derby Museum and Art Gallery as part of FORMAT21.

The exhibition features hundreds of images by contributing artists, brought together in a stunning set of photomosaics by The People’s Picture. The images submitted express important thoughts, feelings and the view of the world around us at this extraordinary time in our collective lives. Through the images we can see the real impact of loneliness, creativity, bereavement, our relationships with nature, family, cities, and the resurgence of gardening/DIY/baking and making and so much more.
