HIGHLIGHTING HERITAGE: THE PORTABLE ANTIQUITIES SCHEME AND TREASURE IN DERBYSHIRE

In this talk, Meghan King (Finds Liaison Officer for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire) will describe the role of the Finds Liaison Officer, recording small finds by members of the public that are of archaeological interest, and recording and reporting objects which qualify as Treasure.

Meghan King is the Finds Liaison Officer for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, based at Derby Museum and Art Gallery and travelling around the counties hosting Finds Days.

In her talk, Meghan will describe the role of the Finds Liaison Officer, recording small finds by members of the public that are of archaeological interest, and recording and reporting objects which qualify as Treasure. She will also introduce the Portable Antiquities Scheme and the Treasure process, highlighting some of the interesting finds from the around the county. There will be opportunity for attendees to handle some typical objects recorded by the scheme.

This is one talk in a series of collaborative events between the Arkwright Society and Belper North Mill, looking to reveal interesting aspects of local heritage. Six evening talks, from March through to October, will alternate between venues in Cromford and Belper.
