The Lumsdale Valley: Heritage Talk

Christine and Alan Piper tell the story of Matlock’s Lumsdale Valley and its industries from 17th century lead smelting through cotton spinning and bleaching to its decline into picturesque decay. The research for their book Lumsdale: the Industrial Revolution in a Derbyshire Valley also enables them to share insights into the lives of Lumsdale’s more colourful mill owners.
