Cromford Mills Re-Opens
It’s fantastic that Cromford Mills is now open again! The site is observing strictly the government Covid-19 guidelines, so the normal visitor offer has been carefully and thoughtfully adapted.
Visitors can still enjoy the historic site in a variety of ways from the 4th of July. Current opening hours are 10am to 4pm and entrance to the mill yard is free.
The site has also gained the Visit England “We’re Good To Go” Kitemark.
Here’s what to expect:
Food & Drink – Arkwright’s Café in the mill yard, Wheatcroft’s Wharf Café and the new Counting House Coffee Stop at the canal wharf are all open and offering takeaway service. Outdoor seating is available.
Shopping & Retail – The Cromford Mills Shop and the independent retail shops in the mill yard are open. Please follow the instructions outside each shop and check with the individual retailers regarding opening hours.

Mill Yard – Enjoy walking around and investigating the history of Cromford Mills. You will find interpretation boards around the site. Free Entry.
Picnics & Nature – Beyond the mill walls you can explore our new wooden sculpture trail and picnic area by the River Derwent. Climb the steps of Scarthin Rock to discover the best view of the site. Across the road you can also enjoy a walk along the Cromford Canal, a lovely place to look for wildlife. You can walk from Cromford to the High Peak Junction railway workshops and Leawood Pumphouse. Please use the rubbish bins provided on site and do not leave any litter behind.
Toilets – The toilets in the mill yard are open, including the disabled toilet and baby changing facilities. We have reduced the number of cubicles and are operating a queuing system. Portaloos are also available around the site to reduce queuing.
What’s Not Open?
The Visitor Centre, Arkwright Experience and Guided/Audio Tours are not currently available. We hope to adapt our visitor experience soon to meet government guidelines regarding visitor safety.
