International Women’s Day 8th March
This Sunday we are celebrating International Women’s Day with a talk from Adrian Farmer, illustrated by photographs taken by Emily Strutt in the early 1900s. Emily was the wife of George Herbert Strutt who paid for the building and running of a school in Belper – now the community run Strutt’s Centre. Emily’s photos give an insight into the family’s life at this time.
We will be continuing the focus on the stories of women in the World Heritage Site in our Discovery Days Festival later on in the year too. We are working with writer Emma Pass as part of a project with Arts Derbyshire. Emma’s focus will be to bring to life some of these stories and will be part of the Festival. The dates of this year’s festival are 9-11th October.
Look out for more updates on the festival coming soon!
