Derby City Council – Conservation Officer

Salary: Grade J £33,782-£37,890 a year

Location: The Council House, Derby and remotely as applicable
Derby City Council are looking for a motivated, highly skilled conservation professional that has exceptional communication and time management skills, is able to negotiate, prioritise a varied workload and work within a team to achieve corporate regeneration aims.
This challenging and exciting post at Derby City Council offers an excellent opportunity to become part of a highly motivated team which works with a wealth of heritage assets including: the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, Registered Parks and Gardens, approximately 400 statutory listed buildings, 16 conservation areas (some with article 4 directions) and a local list.
This post will work alongside an existing Conservation Officer to provide professional conservation advice to colleagues within the council and customers, and input into a range of applications, appeals and enforcement issues. This post will have a particular focus on the city centre and the economic recovery working closely with Regeneration colleagues.
To join the team, you will need:
- A degree level qualification in built heritage, conservation, architecture, town planning or similar relevant specialism;
- Post qualification experience in historic building and conservation area work in a local government or comparable setting;
- Good working knowledge of built heritage conservation principles and practice;
- Full membership of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation, or be eligible for full membership, or an equivalent professional organisation.
