GEORGIAN DERBYSHIRE FESTIVAL 2023

DERBYSHIRE in the Georgian Era was a place of wonder, of surprises and innovations – a place which attracted the attention of the rich and provided better homes for workers.

In the valley of the River Derwent, water was put to work to power the world’s first factories. Further north, the stark, beautiful landscapes of the Peak District and health-giving waters brought the county’s first tourists to Buxton and Matlock Bath.

To celebrate this fascinating era, the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site Partnership and the Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust will once again work together to provide a series of events and activities to raise the profile of Derbyshire’s contribution to world history at that time.

The second Georgian Derbyshire Festival runs from Friday 16 September to Sunday 8 October. The events will be held mainly at the weekends with some events during the week. The festival will be held at Buxton on 16/17 and 23/24 September, and then move to the Derwent valley on the following  two weekends.

September 30 and October 1 will focus on the Cromford area with the theme of landscape. The following weekend the theme is people and on October 7 there will be events in Derby and Darley Abbey and October 8 it will be in Belper. It’s a chance to discover more about the county’s Georgian-linked attractions and appreciate their significance and impact both locally and globally.  There are also events taking place in Bakewell during the week too.

More events are being added so please keep checking!
